vanimadinHart (m): The (sort of) title Companion and main protagonist in Heart. Hart was born prematurely and her mother, Thames, had a long and arduous labour to birth her into the world. Then, when it was finally over, they discovered that Hart had been born with a spot on her nose-- one which only spread and grew as she did, until by the time she was full-grown she was half covered in brown:
Like the above ^ but with blue eyes and a white mane and tail. Anyway, Hart had it difficult growing up because she was so different and got picked on a bit (yes, even young Companions can be bullies at times), but through it all she came out with a good attitude and sense of humor, as well as a good core friend group who stuck by her through everything. Hart does sometimes question her existence and her worth, at least before meeting Ellory, but she tries not to let the world bring her down.

Yardley (m): Yardley is a no-nonsense sort of mare, very serious and astute, though she does let her guard down and relax around her friends, and in particular around Hart. Yardley has a lot of sympathy for Hart and her plight and often wishes she could do more to help her. Yardley has yet to Choose, and secretly, despite her outward air of confidence, the idea terrifies her because WHAT IF SHE FUCKS IT UP??
Rourke (s): Rourke is a quiet, introspective kind of stallion who's been with Hart and her friend group since the very beginning and will be there until the very end. He is very loyal, and despite being the quiet type, won't hesitate to speak up to defend his friends when necessary. Rourke actually developed a TINY crush on Hart, born out of admiration for how she handles her situation, when they were young, and it continues on to this day.
Sonya (m) & Nichol "Nik" (s): Twin Companions, born only half an hour apart, they are basically inseparable and go everywhere together. They practically finish each other's sentences. They fit in great with Hart, Yardley and Rourke, but also somewhat stand out as their own unit. It was no surprise to anyone when they reached the right age and felt their Calling at the same time, and went out On Search together, though it WAS a bit of a surprise when they came trotting back in to the Collegium with their newly-Chosen: another set of twins!
Twila & Luna Dewsbury: Twin sisters born and raised in a fishing village on the shores of Lake Evendim, they were mere minutes apart in birth and inseparable ever since. Twila has dark hair while Luna has lighter hair, but they both have bright blue eyes; Twila's gift is powerful Animal Mindspeech (which helped in fishing and life around the lake) and Luna's gift is strong Mindspeech, both ThoughtSensing and ThoughtProjecting. When they were twelve years old they were chosen by Sonya (Twila) and Nichol (Luna), respectively, and carted off to Haven to grow into the life of Heralds.
