I haven't been writing in Vanimadin as much lately, not really for any particular REASON, I just... haven't been. *shrug* But I did an entry last night and posted the latest chapter of Horror High just now, and I figured I'd take a few minutes while my morning pills are KICKING MY EVER-LOVING ASS to talk about my next big fandom project, Alien: Kaer Korhen. I'm still working on a BUNCH of fics in Witcher SPN AU (like... 14 of them, I think?) but the other day I saw an ad for Alien: Romulus and I was like YES. ALL THE YES.
So basically it's Witchers In Space. The Kaer Morhen is their spaceship, a little banged up and old but still more than serviceable, and the Wolves (Vesemir, Geralt, Lambert & Eskel) travel the galaxy as bounty hunters taking on monsters and men for pay. Along the way they've picked up two other stray Witchers from other guilds (Aiden & Coen), and the six of them are basically the last of their kind(s) after eons of life on the battlefield. Their crew also employs Yennefer and Triss, and they've picked up Jaskier and Ciri as well.
Aside from the Witchers in their obvious roles as WITCHERS, everyone has a role on the ship, a part to play:
Vesemir is the Captain, charged with making sure they get where they're going safely and on time, and generally looks after everyone else on board, he's the first face other captains see, and needs to be diplomatic because of that (but occasionally forgets that part.)
Geralt is first officer and tactical, second-in-command to Vesemir and in charge of munitions and weapons, anything in regard to defending themselves or warfare. Geralt is Ciri's adopted father.
Lambert is ship's engineer/mechanic and just basically Lambert. He doesn't get along with Triss, always referring to her snidely as "Merigold". The feeling is mutual.
Eskel is ship's cook, which entails the obvious, and is perfectly happy with his station. Wishes he could figure out a way to keep Lil' Bleater out of the kitchen, though.
Lil' Bleater as ship's Mascot because he is literally EVERYWHERE.
Aiden is ship's comms/liasons officer and the last of the Cat Witchers. He's smart as a whip and good at charming people. Also good with computers and hacking.
Yennefer is chief medical officer and suffers no fools. She patches people up efficiently and sends them on their way. Has a soft spot for Ciri. Is good friends with Triss.
Ciri is around 13-->14 years old, still just a kid but a rising star in tactical and not so bad in medical as well. Gets into trouble on a regular basis, as children are wont to do.
Triss helps in medical and the kitchen, sometimes hydroponics, basically wherever she's needed. Would happily blast Lambert into space most days.
Jaskier is a drifter and "space bard", hocking his wares (music) on every ship and station they come across. He doesn't have much of a job on the ship, aside from babysitting Ciri.
Coen is hydroponics/livestock carer. One of the few remaining Griffon Witchers. Gets along well with Lambert. Like Eskel, perfectly happy with his lot in life.
As for relationships, Lambert and Aiden are in one and while most people think they're just fucking there's actually something THERE. They care for each other more than anyone else realizes (maybe more than even THEY realize.)
Geralt and Jaskier are also fucking, but strictly out of convenience, or so they tell themselves. Jaskier is actually head-over-heels for Geralt, though he never says anything. Geralt used to be sleeping with Yennefer-- until Jaskier came along. The fact that he STOPPED fucking her and STARTED fucking Jaskier, to the exclusion of all others, should say a lot, but neither Jaskier nor Geralt see it. Yennefer thinks they're both idiots.
ANYWAY.
So basically, the Kaer Morhen docks at the dodgy Velen space station for a couple of days of shore leave and to refuel, and from the depths of Velen's Forbidden Access lower levels a couple or three facehuggers scuttle onto the ship. When the crew returns and they head out again, all kinds of horrific shenanigans happen.
I have to do some research into the Alienverse weapons and whatnot, but I started writing the first couple pages last night and I'm looking forward to writing the rest. It's going to be very different from what I usually write, though, I don't think I've ever written anything that takes place in space before, not even in Star Trek universe. I'm going to write it like I wrote Horror High, I think, just write the entire thing before I start posting chapters, so I won't get discouraged and quit partway through if it doesn't get any feedback. I'm hoping it gets some traction, but I'm not pinning my hopes on it.
tldr; WITCHERS IN SPACE!! :D
