Basically ever since I conceived of it, the Marionette storyline has been fully formed and for the most part set, with the exception of one or two little details, like how close Auralee's relationship with Dali and Ristav is throughout the story and the plot point on Merric Choosing or not Choosing that I kept wavering over (but have recently decided on finally.) But those little things aside, nothing huge has changed since Marionette's conception way back in like 2003. Everything was figured out.
And then.
Last night I was struck by a new subplot that I fucking LOVE; basically, Marionette takes place over the course of a couple of years, right? And RIGHT at the beginning, Auralee's Chosen, Oran, is killed. So a year into the storyline I'm going to bring him back. AS A COMPANION FOAL, TORAN. (A horse's gestation period is about a year and I assume a Companion's is around the same, so assuming he was conceived on or close to the day that Oran died, he would be born approximately a year later.) And Auralee and Toran are immediately drawn to each other, she spends a lot of time sitting in Companion's Field with him sprawled in her lap just petting his mane (until he gets too big for that, anyway.) It's a HUGE relief for both of them, though Toran doesn't necessarily understand why at first because his past-life memories are newborn-foggy, and relaxes Auralee like WHOA to be around him, which, considering the way things are going for her, she kind of needs.
Toran is not meant to be hers again, though. He is meant for another, years down the line. They just take comfort in each other while they can. <3
EDIT: Also, the next chapter of Marionette (Chapter Three) isn't going to be set to Lifeline by We Three after all, it's going to be set to Incomplete by the Backstreet Boys. I'll use Lifeline later on. (It works better later on anyway.)
